Varje morgon presenterar Bloomberg TV en prognos inför öppningen på Europas börser. Här presenterar jag siffrorna vid två tillfällen, runt 8:30 och strax före kl 9:00.

Prognos Europa-öppningen kl: 08:30 ()
FTSE (London) -15 () punkter, -0,30 %
DAX (Frankfurt) -10 () punkter, -0,23 %
DJ Eurostoxx50 -5 () punkter, -0,17 %

Dow Jones Newswires

WASHINGTON -- Wholesalers elevated their inventories in March as petroleum
and machinery stocks expanded, but the overall increase was far smaller than
expected as automotive stockpiles took the biggest fall in three years.

Wholesale inventories increased by 0.4% to a seasonally adjusted $346.71
billion, after climbing an unrevised 0.6% in February, the Commerce Department
said Monday.

The 0.4% increase in March wholesale inventories came well short of Wall
Street analysts' expectations of a 1.0% gain.

The report showed wholesale sales rose by 0.2% in March to a seasonally
adjusted $291.49 billion. Sales fell a revised 0.5% in February.

The inventory-to-sales ratio was 1.19 in March, unchanged from February. The
ratio measures how many months it would take for a firm to exhaust its current
inventory. The gauge began falling in 2001.

When the economy was sluggish, companies shied away from filling up their
shelves and storage space, fearful of unwanted excess. As the recovery got
under way, businesses were cautious, uncertain of future demand. But eventual
solid economic growth meant strong sales. That depleted stockpiles and held the
inventory-sales ratio low, even though accumulation of goods has been running
high.

Year over year, sales went up 7.2% since March 2004, while inventories rose
10.8%. Inventories eclipsed sales on a year-over-year basis in February after a
long period spent lagging the pace of demand.

Another reason inventories have grown is rising prices of commodities,
according to analysts. Price inflation boosts the dollar value of stockpiled
goods. The price climb also prompted some wholesalers to load up on certain raw
goods, such as steel and chemicals, in case costs escalate even further.

Monday's data showed inventories of durable goods -- meant to last three or
more years -- rose 0.1% in March, after rising 0.5% in February. Durable goods
sales decreased 0.5%, following a 1% decline in February.

The 0.1% climb in durable goods inventories was led by a 1.3% increase in
machinery. Metals rose 1.5%. Auto inventories shrank 2.3%, which was the
biggest decrease since December 2001's 2.4% drop.

Nondurables rose 1% as petroleum stocks swelled by 9.3%. Year over year,
petroleum inventories climbed 71%.

The 0.5% drop in durable goods sales was led by a 0.9% decrease in demand for
autos and a 4.1% fall in lumber.

Nondurable sales rose 0.9% as petroleum demand shot up 9.2%.

Going forward, wholesalers' inventories could decline. During the first three
months of 2005, overall business inventories ballooned by $80.2 billion, after
rising $47.2 billion in the fourth quarter, according to the latest gross
domestic product report. Businesses, confronting rising energy prices, had
slammed the brakes on spending, which climbed 4.7% in the first quarter after
surging 14.5%. Analysts say much of the first-quarter inventory increase was
likely unintended and might lead to production cutbacks.
