Today's chart illustrates that investing in REITs during the calendar months of November through July would have outperformed simply buying and holding REITs since 1972. While there are some noteworthy November to July periods during which REITs didn't shine (i.e. 1973-74 & 1998-99), the out performance is noteworthy especially when compared to overall negative performance during the August through October period.

Notes: 
- A REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) is a company that owns and sometimes operates income-producing real estate (i.e. apartments, malls, offices, and industrial parks).
- REIT performance is measured with the NAREIT total return equity index and has been adjusted for inflation.
