Ericsson - Cingularorden
Notera speciellt: "AT&T is using base stations from both Ericsson and Nortel, but the new Cingular 3G system will not."
Tidshändelser 2004

"Cingular 3G Details Thursday, May 27
More details on Cingular's 3G rollout are available from Lucent, Cingular, Unstrung, The Feature, Wireless Week and other sources (see DailyWireless Cellular At The Races).
Earlier, AT&T Wireless announced they would commercially launch UMTS in four US cities by the end of the year. AT&T never announced when it expected to roll UMTS out nationwide and now Cingular CEO Stan Sigman doesn't expect a broad rollout until 2006 on the combined network, despite whatever work AT&T has completed. Sigman said the supply of equipment simply doesn't meet their demand yet. AT&T is using base stations from both Ericsson and Nortel, but the new Cingular 3G system will not."
"Cingular's UMTS network will use Lucent's UMTS solution. It operates in the 1900 MHz spectrum, and will include testing of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), a technology that will ultimately support data speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps according to the company. The network also will be designed to support VoIP in the future. HSDPA will be a software-only upgrade. The equipment currently supports data speeds of up to 2mbps but ultimately could support speeds of up to 14.4mbps, the carrier said."

11-12-04 NEW YORK
"(Dow Jones)--Cingular Wireless, the largest U.S. mobile-phone company by subscribers, may soon announce plans to upgrade its network to support high- speed communications, giving equipment vendors Telefon AB L.M. Ericsson (ERICY) and Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) the lion's share of the project.
Ericsson and Lucent are likely to get 45% and 35%, respectively, of Cingular's $4 billion to $5 billion in upgrade spending over the next four years, said Inder Singh, a stock analyst with Prudential Financial, in research published Friday.
Siemens AG (SI) might get about 15% of Cingular's upgrade, Singh added, while Nortel Networks Corp. (NT), which continues to struggle through an accounting mess, "appears to have been excluded from this project."
"11-30-04 NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Cingular Wireless confirmed late Tuesday that it will award some $4 billion in network upgrade contracts to Ericsson (ERICY:Nasdaq - news - research), Lucent (LU:NYSE - news - research) and Siemens (SI:NYSE - news - research).
While the deal is certainly a positive for Ericsson and Siemens, it´s seen as a major victory for Lucent, which has been largely on the sidelines in markets outside the code division multiple access, or CDMA, arena.
The big losers in the deal are Nortel (NT:NYSE - news - research) and Nokia (NOK:NYSE - news - research). Both vendors have been suppliers to Cingular and AT&T Wireless in the past and were considered to be in the running for Tuesday´s award of universal mobile telecommunications system, or UMTS, upgrade contracts."
"11-30-04 NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Siemens Information and Communication Mobile (IC Mobile) LLC and Cingular Wireless have signed a three-year agreement for the supply of GSM mobile network infrastructure.
The agreement, which is estimated to be in excess of $500 million, is designed to support Cingular Wireless as it upgrades its mobile network to third-generation wireless data technology using EDGE."
"11-30-04 NEW YORK (MURRAY HILL, N.J.)-- Cingular Wireless and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced a four-year agreement for Lucent to supply third-generation (3G) UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) network equipment, software and services to support Cingular's nationwide 3G service rollout. The deployment also includes an enhanced version of UMTS technology, called High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), which will ultimately support theoretical maximum peak data speeds of up to 14.4 Megabits per second (Mbps)."
"11-30-04 STOCKHOLM (Ericsson)--Cingular Wireless LLC, the largest wireless carrier in the United
States, has chosen Ericsson as a supplier and integrator in the
buildout of Cingular's next generation voice and data network. Under
the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will provide a portion of
Cingular's UMTS/High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) packet core
and radio network equipment."
"Cingular Wireless will also benefit from Ericsson networks and
services obtained through its recent acquisition of AT&T Wireless,
which rolled out Ericsson UMTS equipment in several U.S. markets
earlier this year."
